Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) or commonly known as The Valley, is a public HBCU located in Itta Bena, Mississippi. The university was established in 1950 as the Mississippi Vocational College that later became Mississippi Valley State College in 1964.
Due to student-led boycotts and civil rights movements, leaders consistently protested the racial inequalities they faced in higher education. This essentially led to the renaming of Mississippi Valley College to Mississippi Valley State University in order to lower the high tension during the time. MVSU’s official colors and forest green and white and their mascot is the Delta Devils or Devilettes for women teams. Their athletics are members in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) of the NCAA Division I (I-AA for football).
The Valley is known for being the alma mater of many former professional football players and even members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The institution offers undergraduate and graduate programs that inspire students to be their best selves on and off campus.
