Texas Southern Halftime Show - HBCU Marching Bands

Youtube Channel, MARCHINGSPORT, posted a throwback video of the Texas Southern Halftime Show. Accompanying the band is the Motion of the Ocean female dance team. With over 200 band members and three drum majors, Texas Southern’s The Ocean of Soul marching band is the largest on-campus organization. In fact, the university recruits members across the nation looking to carry out the Ocean of Soul legacy. Over the years, they have established a solid reputation for their precision drills, complex dance routines, and their distinctive sound.

In addition to their performances at TSU basketball and football games, the band has performed at several Pro Football games, The Stellar Awards, and was invited to lead the parade after the Houston Astros won the World Series in 2017. Texas Southern University is a public HBCU located in Houston, Texas just three miles away from Downtown Houston. It is one of the biggest HBCU’s by enrollment following North Carolina A&T with over 10,000 students and more than 100 academic programs. Additionally, the university offers 80+ student organizations along with a large alumni association.

Wearing maroon and gray, the Texas Southern Tigers compete in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) in NCAA Division I and FCS for football. Their most popular rivals are Prairie View A&M, Southern University, Grambling State, and Jackson State. The Texas Southern Baseball team has had an incredible amount of success in recent years. The Tigers have been conference tournament champions from 2016-2018.

Texas Southern University is known for their notable alumni and even faculty. Famous alumni consist of Pro Football Hall of Famer/co-host Michael Strahan and Gospel singer, Yolanda Adams. Also, currently attending the university is female rapper, Megan Thee Stallion.
