  As you may or may not know, the 2021 NFL Draft took place in late April where the NFL selected newly eligible players to compete in the 2021 season. Unfortunately, not one HBCU player was drafted this year out of 259 picks. One main reason for this is due to COVID-19 resulting in the cancellation and delay of many colleges 2020-2021 season. Consequently, HBCU prospects were not able to showcase their talents to the best of their ability. More and more top highschool basketball recruits are choosing to attend HBCUs, but there are not many HBCU alum represented in the professional league. Currently, there is only one active player in the NBA is an HBCU alum. Robert Covington, a forward on the Portland Trail Blazers, graduated from Tennessee State University in 2013. Former HBCU Football Players Joining the NFL

In the past year, we have seen most HBCU football programs on a halt due to COVID-19, however, there were several HBCU alum that had the opportunity to play at the professional level in 2020. According to HBCU Game Day, as of September 2020, there were 29 players from HBCUS on active player rosters in the NFL. The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) is the top conference with the most players with a total of 13 players.
