Although the college football season has been pushed to the Spring, there are other ways to still enjoy HBCU football. Youtube channel, WOIL & WOTM, posted an entire football game featuring Miles College and Benedict College from the 2019 season.

The Miles College football team also known as the Golden Bears are members of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) of NCAA Division II. In addition to football, the college offers basketball, volleyball, track, baseball, softball, cross country, and golf.

Miles College is a private liberal arts HBCU located in Fairfield, Alabama. It was originally founded in 1893 as Miles Memorial College to honor Bishop William H. Miles. The name was officially changed to Miles College in 1941. In January 2020, Alabama native, Charles Barkley, donated one million to the college, making this the college’s biggest donation from an individual. The college offers 25 bachelor’s degrees in Business and Accounting, Communications, Education, Natural Sciences and more. Miles College is one of 41 schools within the United States with a Center of Academic Excellence under the Director of National Intelligence. The institution’s student activities include the National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations, the Student Government Association, religious clubs, gospel choir, concert choir, and the infamous marching band.

Miles College’s Purple Marching Machine was established in 1996 and currently has around 200 band members. The Purple Marching Band is joined by the Golden Stars danceline and the Steaming Flags. Together, the band has performed in several televised events such as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade and for the Atlanta Falcons.
