College During a Pandemic??? Steps for Deciding! Delaware State University

Posted by Montana Branch on

Youtuber and Delaware State University student, Alexis Pleasant, posts an informative video about factors to consider before returning to campus. She breaks the video down into four sections: tuition cost, types of class, COVID-19, and social life. While discussing her own decision to stay home for the Fall 2020 semester, she emphasizes how important it is to do what is best for the individual and how her circumstances might be different for other people. Because of COVID-19’s effect on society and her classes all being held remotely, Alexis knew it would be best to stay home instead of risking her chances. However, she does plan to return to Delaware State in the Spring semester.

Delaware State University is a public four-year HBCU located in Dover, Delaware. DSU was established on May 15, 1891 as Delaware College for Colored Students. After a couple name changes throughout the years, it wasn’t until 1993 when the university changed its name to Delaware State University. Just one month ago, DSU made the announcement that they were going to officially acquire Wesley College. This made Delaware State the first HBCU to acquire a college that is not a pre-existing historically black college and/or university. From 2009-2018, DSU’s College of Business was named as one of Princeton Review’s Best Business Schools.

The athletic teams, known as the Delaware State Hornets, compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in NCAA Division I and NCAA Division I FCS for football. Notable attendees include R&B singer, SZA, who studied marine biology during her time at Delaware State.
