Welcome back to The Black College Club! Hosts, Montana and Trevon discuss the recent donations that various HBCUs have received from people in power over the past year. Philanthropist and ex-wife of Jeff Bezos, MacKenzie Scott, gave over $4 billion to organizations in 2020 including HBCUs such as Xavier University of Louisiana, Hampton University, Tuskegee University, and many more. In fact, Prairie View A&M University received its largest donation from a single donor of $50 million along with North Carolina State A&T who received a donation of $40 million. Scott is not the only person who has invested in HBCU’s and their students. NBA basketball player, Kyrie Irving, paid off nine Lincoln University of Pennsylvania students’ tuition in 2020. Rapper, Travis Scott, also paid off a semester worth of tuition for five HBCU students after sharing that both of his parents attended HBCUs. Montana and special guest, Micah Blackwell, discuss if funding was ever a factor in the college decision highlighting the importance of the recent donations.

The segment of HBCU alum in Politics, addresses the recent figures who have made history in the world of politics within the last year. Spelman alum, Stacy Abrams, assisted tremendously in voter turnout and voter registration activism in Georgia for the 2020 election. In fact, her advocacy has led her to become a nominee for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize. Morehouse alum, Raphael Warnock became the first African-American Senator in Georgia after winning the Senate Election this past January. And of course as we all know, Madam Vice President, Kamala Harris who is also a Howard alum and member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is officially in the White House!
